How Our Image Recognition Works
Our Dragy Calculator uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology to automatically extract performance data from your Dragy app screenshots. The system identifies time intervals, slope percentages, altitude data, and speed measurements.
While our OCR is highly accurate, the quality of your screenshot directly affects the results. Follow these tips to ensure the best possible data extraction.
Screenshot Best Practices
Use Native Screenshots
Take screenshots directly on your phone using the built-in screenshot function. Avoid taking photos of another screen with your camera.
Ensure Good Contrast
Make sure your screen brightness is adequate. Dark or washed-out screenshots are harder to read accurately.
Capture the Full Screen
Include the entire Dragy results screen. Don't crop out the slope percentage or altitude data at the edges.
Avoid Overlays
Dismiss any notifications or pop-ups before taking the screenshot. Overlapping elements confuse the OCR.
Supported Image Formats
Our calculator accepts the following image formats:
- PNG — Recommended. Lossless compression preserves text clarity.
- JPG/JPEG — Supported. Use high quality settings to avoid compression artifacts.
- WebP — Supported. Modern format with good quality.
For best results, use PNG format when possible. JPG compression can blur text edges, especially at lower quality settings.
What Data Gets Extracted
Our OCR looks for and extracts:
- Time Intervals: All acceleration times (0-100, 100-200, 60-130, etc.)
- Slope Percentage: The grade/incline shown on your run
- Start/End Altitude: Elevation data for the run
- Distance: Total run distance when displayed
- Units: Automatically detects km/h vs mph format
Common Issues and Solutions
❌ Times not being detected
Solution: Ensure the screenshot includes the full results table. Check that no part of the times are cut off or covered by other elements.
❌ Wrong slope value extracted
Solution: The slope indicator can sometimes be confused with other numbers. Make sure the slope percentage area is clearly visible and not obscured.
❌ Units detected incorrectly
Solution: Our system auto-detects based on speed values. If detection fails, you can manually select your units after upload.
❌ Blurry or unreadable text
Solution: Retake the screenshot at higher screen brightness. Avoid screenshots of screens (use native screenshot instead).
Manual Data Entry
If image recognition isn't working for your particular screenshot, you can always use our Basic Calculator mode to manually enter your data. Simply:
- Select "Basic Calculator" tab
- Enter your measured time
- Enter the slope percentage from your Dragy screen
- Click Calculate
Manual entry gives you the same accurate slope correction calculations.
